Experience the Allgäu summer
Summer holidays in the Allgäu is exciting, invigorating and relaxing at the same time. Whether hiking, cycling or a trip to the lake, you get to decide every day anew how you plan your personal Allgäu holiday:
Cycling and mountain biking in the Allgäu
The Allgäu is ideal for easy or challenging mountain bike tours, e-bike tours or mountain bike trails. Bicycle racing is also a true thrill thanks to the proximity to Austria. Fantastic landscape impressions and the numerous lakes and ponds in the region invite visitors to cool off on a warm day. In addition, there is a wide range of themed cycling tours such as the Forggenseerunde that can be combined with a boat trip on Forggensee lake, diverse routes to Austria or the Emmentaler cycling trail which takes visitors past several dairies. Bring your bicycle with you or hire one on-site or how about an e-bike?
Hiking in the Allgäu
Hiking and mountain climbing in the Allgäu is a classic activity. Not only because it does not require much – with good shoes, sufficient provisions and a planned route, visitors can usually start right from the doorstep. Hiking holidays in the Allgäu is also very meditative. The steady uphill hike and silence of nature allow visitors to let their thoughts wander and get away from the daily grind. Visitors are rewarded with fantastic views and most often also enjoy a savoury snack at the traditional huts and alpine pastures. Those who prefer taking an easier route from the often strenuous descent of the hike can simply use one of the many steep grade railways to get back to the valley.
Steep grade railways in the Allgäu
The steep grade railways in the Allgäu take you quickly and conveniently to the peaks of the Allgäu Alps and back. Those who are not so fleet of foot or looking for an easier way to go uphill are in the right place. There is also usually a great programme of activities – especially for families: a hut with savoury snacks, playgrounds, petting zoos and starting points to further huts and alpine pastures at the steep grade railway stations. For example, the Alpspitz steep grade railway in Nesselwang (pictured above) or the Tegel steep grade railway offer a summer toboggan run with which visitors can whisk down into the valley.
Paragliding in the Allgäu
Paragliding is enjoying a boom in the Allgäu. The numerous steep grade railways and stations offer good starting points and the “views and impressions” in flight are breathtaking, for example, paragliding above the royal palaces from Buchenberg mountain overlooking Forggensee lake. Beginners can book a trial tandem flight at one of the flight schools in the region.
